Lumbini is situated in the southern Terai plains of Nepal, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the city of Bhairahawa and 280 miles (450 kilometers) from Kathmandu. It is accessible by air, road, and rail.

How to get to Lumbini

There are two ways to reach Lumbini from Kathmandu either by Road route or By Air route.

The most common method is by public or tourist bus, which takes about 6-8 hours. The bus route from Kathmandu to Lumbini is Kathmandu-Chitwan-Butwal-Bhairahawa-Lumbini. Kathmandu to Lumbini is around 260 km.

Alternatively, you can take a direct flight from Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA Kathmandu) to Bhairahawa(BWA), and then travel to Lumbini, which takes about 1 hour.

If you are in India, it’s easy to reach Lumbini. Just take a local bus or taxi from Gorakhpur to Lumbini, which takes about 5 hours.
