You don't need a visa to enter Nepal only if you are INDIAN.

Visas-on-arrival is available but travelers should check with the nearest Nepal Embassy for details and conditions. If you are a national from these countries, you should get a visa before arrival: Afghanistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Syria. Rest nationals can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Please follow these simple procedures for Tourist Visa on Arrival at the airport (TIA) if you have not acquired Visa prior to boarding the plane.

Fill in the Online Tourist Visa form ( you can fill it up prior to your arrival by visiting our official website Department of Immigration / fill it up using Kiosk machines upon your arrival at the airport).

If you fill it out from the website, you will get a submission Receipt with a barcode, please print it out and bring it along for acquiring a visa. It works for fifteen days and becomes invalid then after. If so, you will have to fill it up again. then Make payment at the bank according to your visa requirement ( 15/30/90 Days).

Get the receipt and pay the visa fee.

TIP: The ATMs in TIA don't always work, and visitors often have to wait in line until one does. Because of this, it's best to bring cash with you. This is the first chaos you will see in Nepal.

Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form, payment receipts, and your passport. Hand in your documents to the immigration officer for visa processing then the immigration officer will issue a visa to you.

Visa Extension Fee

Travelers can extend their visa and change the type of visa, please consult with the department of immigration. Tourist visa extension is done for a minimum of 15 days with USD 45 and USD 3 per day for additional days.

In the case of a delay of fewer than 150 days, an additional USD 5 per day is a late fine.

Expired Visas

If your visa has expired, extend it at the Department of Immigration before you leave.

Free Visa Nepal

Did You Know Gratis Visa (Visa for Free)?
All types of Visas issued at the TIA are Tourist Visas. You can consult with the Department of Immigration to change the type of your visa.
Gratis Visa is issued free of cost in the case of the following categories of Visa applicants:

  • Children below 10 years except for US citizens
  • SAARC citizens visiting Nepal for the first time in a given visa year may stay for up to 30 days.
  • Chinese Nationals are eligible for 150 days tourist Gratis Visa in a given visa year.

Officials from Georgia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Thailand, Russian Federation,
Federal Republic of Brazil, Vietnam, Cambodia, Jordan, the State of Israel, and the State of Qatar can get a gratis visa.

These above-mentioned nationals do not need Entry Visa.

* Afghan citizens are eligible for a Gratis Visa on Arrival, which is a lot of paperwork.

Border measures

If you are fully vaccinated(two doses of vaccination) then you don't need to quarantine on arrival in Nepal. You'll need to present your vaccination certificate on arrival.
If you haven't been fully vaccinated, you must have a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test within 72 hours before leaving for Nepal.

Money and Money Restriction

  • The local currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR).
  • You have to declare all amounts over $US5,000 or equivalent on arrival and departure.
  • You can't take more than $5,000 in or out of Nepal.
  • You can change foreign currency for NPR at banks and currency exchange centers.
  • Credit cards are accepted at major hotels and commercial places.
  • You can bring only 50gm of Gold jewelry and,500gm of silver, crossing the limit may face consequences.

Best Time To Visit Nepal

You can visit Nepal almost any time in a year however the best time to visit depends on what is your motive to visit. If you want to explore and experience cultural/heritage aspects, you can visit anytime. Nepal has major four seasons, every season is not the same. Our recommendation is to visit Nepal in the Autumn and Spring seasons.

To get the best out of the trip/trekking, October, November, March, and, April are the best times to visit Nepal.

Follow Local Laws

Drugs & Dress

Penalties for drug offenses are severe. Even if you're found with small quantities, authorities can convict and jail you.

Dress codes are relaxed in tourist areas of Kathmandu and Pokhara. Other parts of the country are more conservative.

Dress modestly to avoid offending locals.

Photography

It's illegal to take photos or videos of army barracks, checkpoints, and military personnel. Respect the sign No photography in every possible place.

Convert Religion

Converting someone from their religion is prohibited yet some Korean nationals are doing this. Later they may face consequences.

If officials find you are attempting to convert individuals, you will be deported and banned from reentering Nepal for years.
